Sorry about the lack of updates, it's been quite hectic here getting everything ready for my studies.
Anyways, back to the main story - turns out the Xperia X1 product manager Magnus Andersson has said something important:
"The brand is not tied into any specific technical platform,"This is definitely good news for all users who prefer the UIQ platform over Windows Mobile. After all, now that UIQ is part of the Symbian Foundation of which Sony Ericsson is a committed member of, it opens up the possibility of a UIQ version of the Xperia X1, or future models in the Xperia series.
The Reuters news report also the date of release in Europe as well:
Sony Ericsson, which denied earlier this month the X1 would miss the key Christmas sales period, reiterated on Monday that the phone would start shipping to Britain, Germany and Sweden on September 30. It declined to give prices.Yes, and also for interested users living in America - here's a piece of information that you may wish to keep in mind.
An announcement about North America -- a market Sony Ericsson has said it would make a top priority this year -- will be made on November 3, a spokeswoman said.

Some ppl reckon android should be on it at engadget:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/16/future-xperia-phones-may-not-rely-on-windows-mobile-sez-se/1#c14343311
someone is bound to dump android on it sooner or later.
Wasn't the p5i supposed to be UIQ?
It is still too early to know about the future of Symbian, nobody knows exactly what will happen with the platform, even if many companies and OSes are pushing forwards for a united front, there is no way to know if this will be a new product, or one based on one of those platforms. I think that we should stop talking about UIQ or S60, etc. Symbian will have one operative system and we don't know the name yet, or even what exactly will be inside of it.
It is safe to assume that almost every new phone is just a computer, and it is possible to install a different OS, I don't think that that is news to anybody, but I do think that using the name UIQ is misleading.
I'd rather say Android not UIQ!!
isn't android the future?!
Android phones are used in samsung right? or what ever it is.. all of these craps makes me confused..
The spirit of UIQ lives on!
Not only in samsung ;) android phones are going to be big!
UIQ3 is dead. very disapointing for my new p1i. will windows mobile work on my p1i?
why would anyone want Symbian over windows mobile?
Windows mobile works terribe, i have had a xperia and i had to sell it because just didnt like WM, i think sooner or later theyre going to put Android mixed with Symbian uiq on it, the same as the IDOU has allready.
Take a look at it on youtube.
