ares on the UIQ Evangelist has just posted an article taken from smart-se.ru - it's basically a hack to speed up the loading of the Messaging and the Contacts applications.
If you're curious as to how this hack works - the 2 applications that you install on your P1 are meant for porting applications by developers. The speed boost that was provided is a nice side effect of the applications, and currently there is no explanation for it yet. If you've got a theory, feel free to post it here!

Conference calls still work here under R9K009. On the other side Optimobile Uniphone outgoing calls do not work since that upgrade...
It works! I didn't do a speed test before because I'm a regular mail user on my P1i and the difference after installing those two files is more than obvious.

just run the SEUS, grab the latest firmware (i just got R9K009). I used the two programs before i updated and they were brilliant, but nothing compared to the speed of the new firmware!
i noticed an issue where the bluetooth didnt fuction correctly after installing these two files. I am using R9k009. The pc and other mobile phones i tried to connect to my p1i detected it but failed to send the files.
after uninstalling these two applications i was able to transfer via bluetooth.
There was a small speed improvement after installing the two apps but i dont think my p1i is thaat slow for me to give up bluetooth connectivity.

I need some help on my p1i,
My touchscreen has completely stopped functioning yesterday, hence i contacted Sony ericsson Support to report the problem as my phone is still on warranty..
However, im not able to take a back up of my phone as i can get the cursor to say ok to connecting in Phone mode.. I believe ill loose all the data on my P1i bcoz of this..
Please update me as to how i can work around this problem to take a backup of my p1i..
