swmail, a massive contributer to the UIQ community, has created a new hack to increase the headphone volume for the Sony Ericsson P1i. Establishing his reputation after his Walkman Player 3.0 hack for the P1i, this mod is another welcome enhancement to the P1i community, particularly as many others have claimed that the P1i headphones volume are way too quiet (or too safe for your ears).
Here are the instructions as from the Esato forum post he made:
- Unlock access to system folders (look CapsSwitch)
- Download the archive from http://www.agathosyne.de/files_ext/se_uiq3_sound_mod_lite.zip
- Copy the file 'C:\Private\10202be9\persists\1020867a.cre' from the your phone to computer.
- Run se_sound_patcher, select the file '1020867a.cre' copied from phone, press "Install".
- Copy the patched file '1020867a.cre' back to your phone (in dir 'C:\Private\10202be9\persists').
- Immediately restart your smartphone.
The standard disclaimers again: I am not responsible for any damage caused to your phone, and you're trying this at your own risk. If you've got any problems, I suggest taking it up with the developer swmail himself. He can be reached from his website - http://101swmail010.googlepages.com/uiq3mods - and it's definitely worth taking a look.
Oh and please don't forget to donate to his cause. I may sound like his employee or something for saying this, but seriously - he's been such a massive contributer to the UIQ community, so if you've got some spare change, do show some appreciation for his work :)

Does it also work with Bluetooth Headphone such as HBH DS970 ???
Huh, are you serious?! When I use my HPM-82 on p1i the volume is WAY TOO LOUD even minimum volume, I need to mp3gain to decrease all my songs volume to 92db!! I would say the speaker is too soft, but earphone is too loud!
The hack works perfectly. I guess in some cases (or specific firmware versions) the volume is too loud, but in my case it was awfuly low. After patching the file the volume increased around 50 %. Note that this works for wired headphones. In A2DP Bluetooth headphones the sound is still low.
Would the sound in the A2DP Bluetooth being too low be caused by the fact that the bluetooth itself limits the volume due to safety issues? ie, preventing hearing loss?
Does the hack increase the speaker volume too? I have no problem with the headphone volume but the phone speaker volume is way too low, especially if I'm using 3G.
can anyone send me on my email the 1020867a.cre file pls because i dont have it. my email is s-costas@hotmail.com
thanks costas
this hack change the volume up 50% or more... works great!!! now my p1 is perfect!!! all the sounds are loud!!! thanks!!!
any help on how to install the prog step by step. i am not too sure too confusing for me... tks
Download the archive, and unrar it to wherever you want.
Download and install Capswitch on your phone.
Download and install X-plore, or SwissManagerPro on your phone.
Activate Capswitch, and press "switch" until it shows "off"
Open X-plore or SwissManagerPro and go to C drive on your phone, then the folder named "Private", then go to the folder "10202be9", and then into the folder "persists" and find a file called "1020867a.cre" and copy it over to your D drive, which is your memory stick.
Plug the memory stick into your computer, either through the phone, or an adapter.
Open the unrar-ed contents, and open the application.
Click "agree" on the first screen of the application.
In the application, click browse, and find the file "1020867a.cre" and select it.
Click install and the new file is created.
Go to your phone, and open X-plore, or SwissManagerPro.
Find the newly created file in your D drive and place it in the folder where you originally found the file in C drive.
Restart your P1i and it should work.

did you use capswitch to allow access to the files?
I can't find 1020867a.cre in that folder either.
Got CapsSwitch, SwissManager, etc all working fine (got Walkman 3.0 working). Just that file is simply not there....
Any help greatly appreciated
I am blown off.... literally. Due to low volumem i always used to be at 100% volume. After this MOD, i started a linkin park track and had to literally take my hpm-85 off. It was blasting off. i have never heard a phone headphone so loud. not n91/w850i. HPM-65 and 68 cannot handle full volume now. get hpm-75 or above for this mod. Great work SW.
a good read.
Capswitch & X-plore are installed
There's no private folder showing.. It's showing OFF in capswitch .. help please eek first time

afaik, *capswitch* allows me to write into those ROM areas.
as for "no private folder showing", theres a setting in *x-plore* which should say "show hidden/system folder".. something like that.
hope it helps. ;)
unbelievable !
thanks a lot.
it's...wow! works phantastic! thank you very much!
works great! you can really tell the difference if you plug it to stereo speakers trough the walkman head set, usualy i have to turn the volume knob to almost max to get the volume right, but now i only need to turn the knob not even halfway to get the right volume. . .nice work
