Just to let everyone know that Google Maps has gone native on the UIQ 3.0 platform, so it means that you no longer have the laggy interface that some of you may find when you run a Java application. It's probably one of the new products, thanks to a Google and Sony Ericsson partnership. And no, I'm not complaining - it's one of the few things that has enlightened my day.
And "My Location" now works with on the P1i, thanks to the new release of Google Maps, so get ready for all that extra data. The "My Location" feature is one of the new, stunning specialties of the newly released Google Maps - basically, it takes information from your service provider to provide a location based on your connection with mobile phone towers around you. It's really amazing as it narrows down, with quite a degree of accuracy, where in the world you are. You can now boast to all your friends (that don't use a Nokia) that you've got an excellent GPS on your P1i/M600/W950/P990/W960 now.
On a side note, Bluetooth GPS devices aren't working with this new Google Maps release, so I'm guessing that's definitely on Google's agenda in the short term future. But all in all, definitely great work from Google. And it totally made my day :)

Definately awesome news! Hope to see more applications with this SE - Google partnersip in the near future.
thank.s for the news, i love your blog, is great, i have it on my rss reader on my p1i. i think gmaps is great natively, but my location does,nt work for now. i'm from romania so f..k this country.:P, i hope i'll hear from you soon:P
does it using my wifi or network to go on internet? or is there anyway to set up? thx
for some reason it doesn't work on my tmobile settings. all my other applications can connect using my tmobile gprs settings.
you can set up the connection type, i'm using it on wifi, but you can use it with APN:internet, i think. i mean that would be logic. djrumbu@gmail.com my email, if you want more details
yea it did set that up, but it's still not working. my apn settings are all correct for t-zone.
i did not try other connection types, but i think you should visit esato.com :) and search for this
I have been on esatos and also howardforums. No solution so far. Btw, new version of uiq google map is up

Hoping this will work with a bluetooth gps device! any word on that? i cant seem to find useful info about that.
my friend has an N95 and this beat the nokia gps software already on the phone hands down using the gps so that would be great if it worked on the p1i with a bt gps.
i read your post and was happy :) until i tried it out. It does not work here for me (O2/Germany). So to clarify this: is "my location" working for you with google-maps-mobile-2.0.6? if so: where are you located, any news on germany?
Help is greatly appreciated, spelling-corrections too ;)
I tried google maps in Trinidad, it works fine and updates automatically while driving. All I needed to do was to have GPRS and disable the power save fuction of the phone. I can now find all the useful backroads to avoid rush hour traffic, I wish we had traffic info here but it is not available
its me again, the O2/Germany-Guy. since i couldn't find the answer on the web i found out eventually while using maps and would like to share that knowledge with others.
It _does_ work perfectly as long as you are in an area which has enough gsm<->gsm-geodata available to google-maps. MEans, not the suburbs of some village, but maybe on a towncenter, or in a bigger town even everywhere.
So long, Hannes
